UPDATE:

JONESBORO — Police say a man who escaped Harrisburg police has been recaptured in Jonesboro.

Jonesboro Police Department spokesman David McDaniel told Arkansas Online that a man found Jonathan Ware, 31, hiding in his trash can outside his residence on Pine Valley Lane on the city's south side.

The homeowner called police, retrieved a firearm from his home and held Ware at gunpoint until officers arrived about a minute later, McDaniel said.

Police say Ware was arrested in connection with a domestic dispute in Harrisburg and was taken to a Jonesboro hospital for treatment of injuries suffered during the incident.

While being returned to Harrisburg on Tuesday, Ware was able to move his handcuffed hands from behind his back to the front of his body, then broke the window of the police car and escaped.

Police say Ware was still handcuffed when he was found and was turned over to Harrisburg police.

TUESDAY STORY:

Authorities are seeking an Arkansas man who escaped custody by flipping his handcuffs in front of him and jumping out of a patrol vehicle, police say.

Jonathan Ware, 31, was treated at a Jonesboro hospital after being injured in a domestic disturbance in Harrisburg that led to his arrest, according to a news release shared on Facebook by the Jonesboro Police Department on Tuesday.

While being transported to jail by Harrisburg police, Ware "managed to get his handcuffs in front of him," authorities wrote. Then he reportedly broke the glass of the rear passenger door and jumped out while the vehicle was still moving.

Officers said Ware ran from the intersection of Harrisburg and Caraway roads. He was last reported seen near Craighead Forest Park, according to the post.

Ware was wearing a gray thermal long-sleeve shirt with gray pants and was still handcuffed when he fled, police say. He had not been found as of Tuesday evening.
