Dr. Neldia Dycus with the Arkansas Department of Health gives Gov. Asa Hutchinson an influenza vaccination Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, in the Governor's Conference Room.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Friday morning received a flu shot at the state Capitol and urged other Arkansans to get vaccinated.

"I think it's a good precaution, and who knows what this winter is going to be like," Hutchinson said shortly before Dr. Neldia Dycus with the Arkansas Department of Health administered the shot.

According to the department, 250 positive influenza tests have been reported to the state agency's online database by health care providers since Oct. 1.

The majority were reported in Pulaski, Saline, Faulkner, Jefferson and Craighead counties.

"It's important for folks to get a flu shot, especially if they are over the age of 60. There is really no drawback to it, so we encourage people to get their immunizations," Arkansas Surgeon General Dr. Greg Bledsoe said.

No deaths have been recorded in Arkansas so far this flu season.
