Arkansas man killed, woman hurt in rollover crash, state police say

A man was killed and a woman injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday night in south Arkansas, according to state police.

Police say a 2014 Ford Explorer failed to yield to traffic while traveling north on Columbia County Road 408 around 11:05 p.m., causing the vehicle to crash into a westbound Ford F-150 at U.S. 82 east of Magnolia.

The SUV came to a rest in a ditch on the north side of U.S. 82, a preliminary report states. Authorities said the pickup, driven by 44-year-old Larry Johnson of Magnolia, left the highway’s right side and began to roll before also coming to a stop in a ditch.

Johnson suffered fatal injuries, state police said. A passenger in the pickup, 39-year-old Nikishia Buffington of Magnolia, was reported hurt.

Conditions at the time of the crash were said to be clear and dry.

Johnson’s death was one of at least 416 reported this year on an Arkansas road and one of five recorded in the state Saturday, based on preliminary figures.
