Thea reopening its headquarters

The grand reopening of the Thea Foundation headquarters is set for Friday after four months of renovations to its office space and gallery.

The building at 401 Main St. will be open to the public for tours from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Light refreshments are to be served, according to an event announcement.

The grand opening will coincide with the Argenta Art Walk, held on the third Friday of every month.

The nonprofit focuses on arts as part of the development of students in North Little Rock and elsewhere in Arkansas. The Thea Foundation has distributed more than $1.5 million in art supplies to underfunded schools and awarded $2.25 million in scholarships to Arkansas high school seniors, according to a foundation news release.

The foundation moved into the Argenta Historic District building in 2006.

The North Little Rock City Council provided $48,000 this year to assist the foundation's programs.

More information on the foundation is available online at theafoundation.org.

Rummage sale set for animal shelter

A rummage sale fundraiser for the North Little Rock Animal Shelter will be held Sept. 23.

Proceeds will go to the North Little Rock Friends of Animals, a volunteer group that supports programs at the animal shelter on Championship Drive in Burns Park.

The event at 4001 Lakeshore Drive will begin at 7 a.m. and continue throughout the day. In case of rain, it will be rescheduled for Sept. 30.

Museum to host classic boat show

The Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum will host the Heartland Classics Antique and Classic Boat Show on Oct. 7.

The event will be free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the museum, 120 Riverfront Park Drive.

The boat show will be a static display of boats in the water at the museum's docks. It will include some of the classic boats completing the 370-mile Arkansas River Odyssey that begins the previous Sunday in Muskogee, Okla., and ends in Pendleton in Desha County.

After the show, boat participants will cruise the Arkansas River.

This will be the show's first time in North Little Rock, according to an event news release.

The event is sponsored by the Heartland Classics chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society, an organization dedicated to the preservation and restoration of historic, antique and classic boats of all types of materials including wood, fiberglass, steel and aluminum, and which provides public education on the boats' heritage.

Heartland Classics represents boaters in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. More information on the organization is available online at heartland-classics.org.
