Rock blasting set for U.S. 70 project

Rock blasting operations requiring the closing of all lanes on a section of U.S. 70 in Garland County for 10 minutes are scheduled to continue through Tuesday, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

During the operations, traffic will be stopped between Scenic Ridge and Summit Ridge roads for a 10-minute period between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily, weather permitting.

Traffic on U.S. 70 will be stopped as a safety precaution, and flagging operations will control traffic within the work zone, the department said.

Motorists should consider alternate routes during construction, including U.S. 270.

The blasting is part of a $78.5 million project to widen U.S. 70 to five lanes for 17.5 miles between Interstate 30 in Benton and U.S. 70B in Hot Springs.
