Style: Lucky Man

Mike White makes movies designed to make you cringe. His latest is a kind of plausible horror film about a guy who simply can’t appreciate all the good things in his life because he imagines his old college friends are doing even better with their lives. (In other words, it’s definitely not summer anymore.) Our Philip Martin reviews, while Piers Marchant caught up with White at the recent Toronto International Film Festival.

But if that doesn’t sound like your kind of movie, perhaps we can interest you in a little bit of the old ultra-violence? The Kingsman: The Golden Circle offers plenty of that — Marchant has the details. He also has a review of Little Rock-born David Gordon Green’s uplifting Stronger, about a survival of the Boston Marathon bombing, and a report on the best and worst of the Toronto festival. Meanwhile, Dan Lybarger fills us in on the latest Lego movie and brings up to speed on Sunday’s Art House Theater Day.

That’s what’s going on in the Style section in Friday’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
