Body found in parked vehicle outside Arkansas hospital identified as missing woman

Police on Friday identified a woman who was discovered dead in a vehicle parked outside an Arkansas hospital more than a week ago.

An autopsy from the state Crime Lab confirmed that Christy Nichols, 45, was found at the Northwest Medical Center in Springdale on Sept. 13, according to a news release from the Springdale Police Department.

Police previously said that Nichols appeared to have been inside a black Mazda 6 in the hospital's southwest parking lot for some time. She was reportedly found in the driver's seat with her seat belt still buckled.

No obvious signs of trauma were found, according to authorities.

The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette stated that Nichols' family reported her missing to the Noel, Mo., marshal's office Aug. 6 and that the Bentonville Police Department joined the investigation Aug. 31. She was last seen alive Aug. 6 at the Catalyst Church in Bentonville, according to a news release from Bentonville police cited by the paper.

In the Friday news release, Springdale police said the cause and manner of the 45-year-old's death are still being investigated.
