Fashion forward: Fashion shindig benefits Timmons Arts Foundation, aspiring designers

The 11th annual Designers Choice Fashion Preview, the wildly popular fashion-show benefit for the Timmons Arts Foundation, took place April 7 at the Metroplex. A VIP reception consisted of libations, morsels from RSVP Catering, and a chance to take photos with the show's celebrity co-host, actor Lorenz Tate.

Later, Tate teamed up with KLRT's Donna Terrell to steer the main event, for which music was once again provided by the Rodney Block Collective and vocalist Bijoux along with DJ Nick Hud.

The evening was dedicated to the late designer and Project Runway finalist Mychael Knight, who died in October. Knight was remembered with a video, a dance performance and a show of the collection of friend and runner-up Korto Momolu. Other featured designers were Ruby Black-Moore of Ruby Ru Designs; Marcus Lewis of M Lew Clothing; Sofia Caballero Gutierrez; Markia Herron of Herron Hats; Bruce Davis of 22nd Element; Donna Brown; Bryant Phelen of O'Faolain leather bags; Amanda Morley of Cute Ammo; and Chelita Lenice. Fashions from Luv Boutique and children's clothing by Gap were also showcased. At Terrell's -- and the audience's urging -- Tate took a stroll down the catwalk himself. Also appearing on the runway to get their propers were the event's volunteers.

The Timmons Arts Foundation helps expose young people to the arts by providing musical instruments and art supplies to schools with no, or limited, arts programs. The foundation's summer camp is scheduled for July 9-Aug. 3. Visit timmonsartsfoundation.org for more information.
