HOUSTON -- When Seattle reliever Alex Colome saw Houston's Tony Kemp knock his pitch into center field with one on in the eighth inning, he was certain it would be an extra-base hit.
Guillermo Heredia made sure that wasn't the case.
Heredia made a spectacular catch to preserve Seattle's lead, Ryon Healy had three hits and drove in the go-ahead run, and the Mariners beat the Astros 3-2 on Saturday night.
It was yet another victory in a close game by the Mariners, who have taken three consecutive from their AL West rivals and improved to 44-17 this season in games decided by one or two runs.
Seattle trailed 2-0 before scoring all of its runs with a two-out rally in the fourth. Nelson Cruz singled and scored on a double by Kyle Seager that sailed over Kemp's head in center field. Chris Hermann tripled to right field to tie it.
Healy put the Mariners on top with a single but was out at second trying to stretch it into a double.
With no outs and a runner at first in the eighth, Kemp hit a ball to center field that looked sure to drop in for a hit. Heredia raced to track it down and grabbed it as he fell to the ground. He popped up and threw to first to complete the double play.
Wade LeBlanc (7-2) allowed 3 hits and 2 runs in 5 innings. Four relievers allowed a combined 2 hits in 3 innings before Edwin Diaz struck out 2 in a perfect ninth for his MLB-leading 45th save in 48 opportunities.
Charlie Morton (12-3) yielded 7 hits and 3 runs in 6 innings for his first loss since July 1.
RED SOX 5-6, ORIOLES 0-4 David Price struck out 10 over 6 sparkling innings and Jackie Bradley Jr. hit 2 solo home runs, leading Boston to the win in the opener of a split doubleheader. In the second game, J.D. Martinez hit two home runs, including a tiebreaking, two-run drive in the eighth inning, and the Red Sox swept the doubleheader.
YANKEES 5, RANGERS 3 With rain pouring off his hat, Aroldis Chapman struck out Jurickson Profar with the bases loaded, and New York beat visiting Texas.
RAYS 3, BLUE JAYS 1 Willy Adames had two hits and drove in the decisive run, helping Tampa Bay to its seventh victory in eight meetings with host Toronto this season.
TWINS 4, TIGERS 3 Tyler Austin hit a two-run home run in his Twins debut, helping visiting Minnesota beat Detroit.
INDIANS 3, WHITE SOX 1 Trevor Bauer pitched two-hit ball into the seventh inning, and Michael Brantley and Jose Ramirez hit back-to-back home runs to lift Cleveland over host Chicago.
ATHLETICS 7, ANGELS 0 Kole Calhoun and Justin Upton hit two-run home runs, Albert Pujols recorded his 1,000th career hit with the Angels, and Los Angeles beat visiting Oakland.

NATIONALS 9, CUBS 4 Ryan Zimmerman hit two home runs off a shaky Jon Lester and tied a career high with six RBI, helping Washington over host Chicago.
REDS 6, DIAMONDBACKS 3 Pinch-hitter Tucker Barnhart's two-run double highlighted a four-run rally in the eighth inning and Cincinnati beat visiting Arizona.
BREWERS 4, BRAVES 2 Mike Moustakas hit a two-run double in the eighth, Josh Hader recorded a two-inning save and Milwaukee rallied to beat host Atlanta.
MARLINS 4, METS 3 (11) Bryan Holaday delivered a pinch-hit single with one out in the 11th inning, giving Miami a victory over visiting New York.
ROCKIES 3, DODGERS 2 Ryan McMahon hit a three-run home run with two outs in the ninth and host Colorado beat Los Angeles.

INTERLEAGUE
CARDINALS 8, ROYALS 3 Jack Flaherty struck out nine in seven innings, and visiting St. Louis beat Kansas City for its fourth consecutive victory.
