Personal space

Where I live: Capitol View/Stifft Station. It's the best neighborhood in the city. Most of our artists and musicians are right here. I love walking these streets, checking out the diverse architecture and hearing bands rehearse.

Occupation: Writer. I also cartoon. I'm working on a graphic novel based on Ozark murder ballads with Rachel Reynolds. Earlier this year I self-published a comic, Join Me In L.A.: Rock 'n' Roll Adventures and I'm the author of Louis Jordan: Son of Arkansas, Father of R&B. I'm also a musician. I perform solo and with my band Arkopolis. I'm also the writer and host of Arkansongs, a weekly syndicated radio segment originating from KUAR FM 89.1.

My favorite space is: The office.

Why? There's plenty of natural light -- there are windows on three sides. The shelves are lined with records from every Arkansawyer I've ever been able to get my hands on. Nearby is my collection of reference books. There's also Arkansas-related movies and shows. There's the Louis Jordan quilt that I take to every book signing or Jordan show. My friend Hunter made it while stationed overseas.

If there is one change I would make to improve this space, I would: Have floor-to-ceiling shelves and a fancy rolling wooden ladder on wheels to get to it all, or an intern.
