Sheriff: Boy taken from Northwest Arkansas home found safe in Oklahoma hours after Amber Alert issued

A 6-year-old boy who authorities said was taken by his non-custodial mother from a home in Northwest Arkansas on Saturday was located in Oklahoma hours later.

The Washington County sheriff's office said shortly after 9:30 p.m. that Connor Roland Cannon was found safe.

An Amber Alert had been issued in Arkansas several hours earlier. It indicated that Connor's guardians ran outside and saw a gray or silver four-door sedan passenger driving away from a residence in Sonora in Washington County.

The sheriff's office later indicated that they believed Connor was taken by his non-custodial mother and that the car that left Sonora was involved in a minor accident in Westville, Okla. Police responded to the accident and found the vehicle, but the occupants had left on foot.

Connor was later said to be found safe by police in Stilwell, Okla. It wasn't immediately known if he was with his mother.

Sonora, which is east of Springdale, is about 50 miles northeast of Stilwell.
