City seeks nominees for Sustain the Rock

The city of Little Rock is accepting nominations for its 2018 Sustain the Rock Award, given to businesses, groups or individuals who have worked to make Little Rock more sustainable.

Sustainability includes environmental responsibility, economic prosperity and community equity, the city’s website says.

Nomination forms can be found online at littlerock.gov/for-residents/sustainability/sustain-the-rock-awards. Forms can be emailed to tmullins@ littlerock.gov. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 22.

The seven award categories are: individual, nonprofit, small business (fewer than 10 employees), medium business (10 to 50 employees), large business (more than 50 employees), educator, and city department or employee.

“The Sustain the Rock Awards recognize excellence and impact in economic, environmental, and social activities, strategies, and policies that support and advance sustainability in Little Rock,” according to a fact sheet about the awards.

Last year’s winners included Davis Rubber Co., which has been committed to rubber recycling, and Goodwill Industries of Arkansas, which is estimated to have diverted more than 25 million pounds of waste annually out of Little Rock landfills through its reuse and recycle programs.

Bicycle Advocacy group of Central Arkansas Chairman Mason Ellis won the individual award last year for his work promoting a “complete streets” ordinance and other work on bike trails.
