Fort Smith pedestrian struck, left critically hurt

A pedestrian was hit and critically injured by a vehicle Wednesday night in Fort Smith, authorities said.

According to a spokesman from the Police Department, Jeffrey Campbell was hit near the 1400 block of Grand Avenue.

Campbell, 55, who is believed to be from Oklahoma, was taken by helicopter to a Little Rock hospital, Cpl. Anthony Rice said. His condition had worsened as of Thursday afternoon, and Rice said Campbell isn't expected to survive.

Authorities described the vehicle as a dark van or SUV with possible damage on its passenger side.
