Two wrecks fatal to two motorists

At least two people died in accidents since Sunday, authorities said.

A 35-year-old Monticello woman died Tuesday when the vehicle she was driving crashed into an Arkansas Department of Transportation dump truck along a U.S. highway in southeast Arkansas, authorities said.

It happened about 1 p.m. on U.S. 65 in Lake Village, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Melissa Forrest was driving a 2012 Toyota north when the front of her vehicle struck the back of a dump truck that was parked on the shoulder, the report said.

Forrest suffered fatal injuries. No one else was listed as being hurt.

Danny Straessle, a Department of Transportation spokesman, said the crew was repairing potholes when the crash happened. No one was in the dump truck.

Conditions were clear and dry, authorities said.

A 47-year-old man died in a two-vehicle crash Sunday, authorities said.

The wreck happened about 3:10 p.m. on Arkansas 25 at its intersection with 5 Mile Road in Cleburne County, according to a preliminary report.

Timothy Turney of Batesville was driving a 2004 Hyundai north on the highway in Drasco and failed to yield to a southbound 2003 Chevrolet while making a left turn onto 5 Mile Road, according to Arkansas State Police.

Turney suffered fatal injuries, state police said.

Two more people were reported as hurt, though the report didn't provide any details about the individuals or the extent of their injuries.

Authorities said conditions were wet and cloudy at the time of the wreck.
