Authorities in Little Rock are investigating a fatal shooting near downtown.

Shortly after 2:20 p.m., officers were called to 1200 Geyer St., the listed address for Eastview Terrace Apartments, dispatch records show.

While en route, authorities were told the victim had been taken from the scene in a private vehicle. Department spokesman Lt. Michael Ford said officers stopped the car in the area of 15th and College Streets, which is southwest of the apartments.

The victim was found shot in the throat, according to Ford, and was taken by hospital to UAMS Medical Center, where he died.

By 3 p.m., authorities had crime-scene tape strung up near 15th and College streets. A white car was parked in the street within the taped-off area.

Police said the shooting occurred in the parking lot of the apartment complex. The motive was unknown as of Monday afternoon.

The killing is the first confirmed homicide of 2018 in Little Rock. Justin Duft, 19, died Wednesday after being run over Dec. 26, 2017 in the parking lot of a west Little Rock shopping center. Authorities have not yet ruled Duft's death a homicide, and it wasn't clear if it would be recorded under 2017 or 2018's killings if it is found to be one.

The fatal shooting was at least the second reported in Little Rock on Monday.

A dispatch log shows officers were called to CHI St. Vincent Infirmary shortly after 9 a.m. Monday.

The victim, a woman whose name was not immediately released, was shot outside a residence in the 7800 block of Preston Drive, Lt. Michael Ford. She arrived at the hospital in a private vehicle, he added.
