California-based Trader Joe’s has filed a building permit for a Memphis location, bringing the chain closer to Arkansas.

The grocery chain will be located in a 12,395-square-foot space at 2130 Exeter Road, which had been the home a of Kroger in Germantown that relocated to a larger site in 2015.

A building permit application filed Wednesday with the Shelby County Office of Construction Code Enforcement listed 2130 Exeter Rd Holdings LLC as the owner and Trader Joe's as a tenant.

The filing, with an estimated value of $750,000, lists the work as "tenant build-out of shell building."

The nearest Trader Joe's is currently in Tulsa, which is about 228 miles northwest of Little Rock. Five of Arkansas' six surrounding states have locations of the grocery store.

In Arkansas Online's first Chain Bracket, Trader Joe's won among chains that Arkansans wanted to locate in the state.
