Authorities are investigating after an 18-month-old girl died Tuesday afternoon at an Arkansas hospital.
Detectives were called to a Fort Smith hospital around 4 p.m. that day in reference to a toddler with unspecified injuries, said Cpl. Anthony Rice of the Fort Smith Police Department.
The child’s mother and live-in boyfriend had brought the girl to the hospital, Rice said.
Doctors tried to resuscitate the toddler but were unsuccessful, according to authorities.
Police said the girl’s body was taken to the state Crime Laboratory for an autopsy. Her death was listed as “unexplained” as of Wednesday afternoon.
An investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made in the case.
