A body found by the Jefferson County sheriff’s office earlier this week is that of a 71-year-old woman who was reported missing in Conway on Monday, police said Friday.

Police are investigating Elvia Fragstein’s death as a homicide, said Erin Stone, a spokesman for the Faulkner County sheriff’s office.

Fragstein’s SUV was spotted behind the Conway Commons shopping in surveillance footage Saturday afternoon, but she did not return home. Her vehicle, a 2013 silver Honda CRV, remains missing.

The Jefferson County agency received a call Wednesday morning about a woman’s body that had been spotted by a driver traveling along Gibb Anderson Road. The road is near Pine Bluff, just south of Grider Field Ladd Road.

Investigators in Faulkner County reached out Jefferson County authorities after learning that an unidentified body had been found. The state medical examiner positively identified the body as Fragstein on Friday morning, according to a release from the Faulkner County sheriff’s office.

In the release, authorities said there is reason to believe Fragestein "was forcefully taken from Conway" and killed by individuals believed to be from Jefferson County.
