Police: 74-year-old Arkansan dies after SUV rolls in crash, ejects him

A 74-year-old Arkansas man died Wednesday when he was ejected from an SUV that veered off a Nevada County road and hit a tree, authorities said.

King Lockhart of McNeil was driving east on County Road 131 near Rosston at 1:15 p.m. when he lost control of his 2001 Chevrolet Blazer in a curve, according to a preliminary Arkansas State Police crash report.

Police said the SUV traveled off the north side of the road, hit a tree and rolled onto its side.

Lockhart was ejected in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, identified as James Lockhart, 28, of Magnolia, was injured in the wreck, the report states.

Conditions were described as clear and dry at the time of the accident.

At least 258 people have died in crashes on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
