Fight over money leaves man shot

A 26-year-old Little Rock man was shot once in the side during a disturbance early Monday inside a motel room in west Little Rock, authorities said.

Montrell Gant suffered injuries not believed to be life-threatening, police said in a report on the shooting at the Extended Stay America at 600 Hardin Road.

Officers were called to the motel just west of Interstates 630 and 430 shortly after 7 a.m.

Gant told authorities that an argument over money owed to him escalated into a struggle when one man in the room produced a gun and pointed it, according to the report. Gant "attempted to get the firearm when it discharged into him," the report said.

The gunman and a second person with him left in a tan or champagne-colored Chevrolet sedan before police arrived.

One man was listed on the report as a possible suspect while the second person was not identified.

Woman: Robber stole cigarettes

A 35-year-old woman told police that she was robbed at gunpoint of cigarettes Monday night at a Little Rock gas station.

The victim told investigators the robber pointed a handgun at her and demanded her package of Newport cigarettes, according to a Little Rock Police Department report.

Authorities say it happened about 10 p.m. at a gas station at 7700 Scott Hamilton Drive.

The gunman was said to be a black and was wearing a white-and-blue T-shirt. He is about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs around 190 pounds. He left in a brown Jeep.

Indianan injured in NLR stabbing

A man was stabbed Saturday during a dispute with a homeless man who is accused of assaulting his stepdaughter, North Little Rock police said.

Officers responded about 10:45 a.m. to a homeless camp on Maple Street near Rock Region Metro's administration office, according to a report from the city's Police Department.

Police said they found 43-year-old Michael Saxton of Indiana lying on the ground, bleeding from wounds in his left knee and upper left arm.

He told authorities that a man cut him with a knife as the two were arguing about his stepdaughter, who had accused the knife wielder of beating her while she was living on the streets.

The report states that the 21-year-old woman met the attacker in another state, and they rode the train to North Little Rock several days before.

Saxton had traveled to Arkansas to get back his stepdaughter, according to the report. The pair had gone to the homeless camp to pick up her belongings when the argument and subsequent stabbing occurred, they told authorities.

The 43-year-old was taken to Baptist Health Medical Center for injuries that were not considered life threatening, police said.

The assailant, whom the 21-year-old knew as "Low," was described as a white man in his late 20s with light-colored dreadlocks and facial hair. He was last seen walking east on S.A. Jones Drive, police said.
