22-year-old Arkansan driving dump truck killed in wreck involving 2 tractor-trailers

A 22-year-old Arkansas man was killed after the dump truck he was driving hit two 18-wheelers Thursday morning.

The crash occurred shortly after 6 a.m. on U.S. 67 near Pocahontas and north of the county line separating Lawerence and Randolph counties.

Tyler Carter Johnson of Jonesboro was headed north on the highway when the dump truck crossed the road's centerline and struck a southbound 2005 Peterbilt and then a southbound 2017 Freightliner.

Johnson suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The report did not specify what caused his vehicle to cross the centerline.

State police said two men were injured in the crash: 32-year-old Rick L. Hudson of Reyno, who was driving the Peterbilt; and 54-year-old Douglas Dean Davis of Granite City, Il., the Freightliner's driver.

Southbound and northbound lanes of the highway were closed for more than seven hours, according to the state Transportation Department.

Authorities said the weather was clear and the road was dry at the time of the collision.

At least 272 people have died in wrecks on state roads this year, preliminary data show.
