Counties dedicate memorial trees

Memorial tree dedications and exhibits observing the centennial year of the U.S. involvement in World War I are scheduled during March, as sanctioned by the Arkansas World War I Centennial Commemoration Committee.

Five counties have scheduled dedications of World War I memorial trees during the month: Monday in Lincoln County; Tuesday in Clark County; March 11 in Van Buren County; March 15 in Lee County; and March 31 in Perry County.

Each of the state's 75 counties is to receive one commemorative willow oak as designated by the centennial committee for planting this year. The commemorative tree program is a partnership between the centennial committee and the Arkansas Forestry Commission.

"Arkansas and World War I," an exhibit of World War I items from the collections of the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies, will be on display in the Underground Gallery of the Arkansas Studies Institute in Little Rock throughout March, among sanctioned World War I exhibits scheduled.

The "Milam Library WWI Exhibit" will be on display throughout the month at the Max Milam Library in Perryville, featuring Perry County-related artifacts from the war.
