Bonnie Bishop will perform at 8 p.m. today at South on Main in Little Rock. Tickets are $38, $36, $30 and $25. The show is the fourth and final presentation in the 2017-18 Americana Series.

Bishop, who was born in Cincinnati and raised in Mississippi and Houston by a surgeon/blues music pianist father and a cellist mother, began her musical career a year after graduating from the University of Texas with degrees in sociology and musical theater in 2002. Her initial focus was on country music and she released six albums in that genre before becoming disillusioned and taking a break. She spent part of her time getting a degree in creative writing at Sewanee: The University of the South.

After meeting with noted producer Dave Cobb, he convinced her that soul music was where he felt she should be, and she released the album Ain't Who I Was in 2016.
