Stop the Violence awards go to officer, businessman, pastor

The Arkansas Stop the Violence organization presented its annual awards Sunday.

The awards went to:

• Officer of the year: Terry McDaniel of the Little Rock Police Department for his work in the investigation of the killing of Mariah Cunningham and her children, 5-year-old Alayah Fisher and 3-year-old Elijah Fisher, who were found dead inside their Little Rock apartment in December 2017.

• Man of the year: David Martinous of Martinous Oriental Rug Co. in Little Rock. Martinous has been involved in the Arkansas Stop the Violence organization's Christmas bicycle drive, school supplies drive and other charitable deeds.

• Pastor of the year: Bishop Carl Ratliff, pastor of Evangelist Temple Church of God on Baseline Road in Little Rock. The pastor was recognized for continually going out to the community to help people, including a food drive for needy families.

Arkansas Stop the Violence is an organization to raise awareness of crime and the impact it has on its victims, to lobby city and state officials to continually do more to try to fight crime from growing, and to help lead initiatives such as giving children free bikes at Christmas.
