3 advocates honored at Friends of Children Luncheon

Three Arkansans were honored Oct. 29 at the Friends of Children Luncheon supporting Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families.

Dr. Eduardo Ochoa Jr., Skip Rutherford and Sherece West-Scantlebury were named the 2018 Friends of Children Award recipients at the luncheon held at the Doubletree Hotel.

Ochoa is a pediatrician at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock and the section chief at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Community Pediatrics Division. He launched the Latino Clinic for special needs children in 2009 at Children's.

Rutherford is dean of the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service. He supervised the planning and construction of the Clinton Presidential Center. He has also been active in numerous campaigns and initiatives at the local, state and federal levels.

West-Scantlebury is the president and chief executive officer of the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation. Its mission is to pursue educational, economic, social, ethnic and racial equality for all Arkansans. Her career includes nearly 30 years working in community development, public policy and public service.

The mission of Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families is to ensure that all children and their families have the resources and opportunities to lead healthy and productive lives.
