Joya Nichelle Hampton - James Wesley Anderson

Joya Nichelle Hampton became the bride of James Wesley Anderson at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, in Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. The Rev. Victor H. Nixon, pastor emeritus of the church, and the Rev. Reginald J. Hampton, retired presiding elder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church and grandfather of the bride, officiated.

Parents of the bride are Cynthia and Rev. Jeffery Hampton of Little Rock. She is the granddaughter of Dorothy and the late John Puckett of Hot Springs, and the Rev. Reginald and the late Nora Banks Hampton of Little Rock.

Betty and Larry Anderson of Decatur, Ga., are the parents of the groom. He is the grandson of Julia Anderson and the late Henry Shell and the late Tinella Bowman and James Porter, all of Columbus, Ga.

The chancel held an arrangement of white and ivory wedding flowers. Music was by organist James Maase and vocalist Veena Akama-Makia of New York who sang "Ava Maria."

The bride, given in marriage by her parents, wore a pearl beaded lace gown and carried mauve and ivory flowers with baby's breath.

Cheyanne Hampton of Dallas was her sister's maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Kelsey Newman and Maria Jones, both of Atlanta; Shena Sanchez of Los Angeles; Sasha Ray and Shamirra Clark, both of Little Rock and Sharissa Tobias of Waukegan, Ill. They wore dusty rose gowns of lace and chiffon and carried bouquets similar to the bride's.

Flower girl and ring bearer were Beckie Akama-Makia and Aaren Akama-Makia of Little Rock.

Best man was Hasan Korre of San Francisco. Groomsmen were Brandon Harris of Columbus; Jared O'Neal and Justin Hadnott, both of Atlanta; Derek Novacek of Los Angeles; Marcus Griffin of Renton, Wash.; and Joel Caldwell of Birmingham, Ala. Guests were seated by Timothy Hampton, uncle of the bride, and Kyle Forehand, both of Little Rock; Markis Fortner of Atlanta; and Stephen Puckett, uncle of the bride, of Houston.

A reception at Chenal Country Club was held after the ceremony. Guest tables held glass vases or tall gold urns filled with ivory and blush wedding flowers. Assisting were Katrina Goines of Atlanta, Aubrey Tools of Palo Alto, Calif., and Regina Hampton of Little Rock.

The bride has a doctorate in clinical psychology from Vanderbilt and is a postdoctoral fellow in clinical psychology at Emory University/Grady Health System.

The groom is a doctoral candidate in cell and molecular biology at the University of Georgia.

The couple will live in Atlanta after a wedding trip to Rome and the Amalfi Coast.
