80-year-old Arkansas woman's death linked to two-vehicle crash hours before

A two-vehicle crash Monday evening in northeast Arkansas is believed to be the cause of an 80-year-old woman's death several hours later, authorities said.

According to a state police report, Bettie Brashears was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt south on Southwest Drive when she failed to yield to a northbound 2006 Toyota 4-Runner at its intersection with Christian Valley Drive shortly after 5 p.m.

Brashears' car collided with the SUV being driven by 23-year-old Joshua Franklin Stone, a Jonesboro Police Department report states.

Officer Casey Moore said when he arrived, Brashears was conscious, alert and talking with emergency personnel. He noted that it appeared she didn't sustain any life-threatening injuries.

Police said they learned that the woman was pronounced dead at an area hospital about 9:45 p.m.

Conditions were described as clear and dry at the time of the crash.

At least 391 people have died in wrecks on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary state police data.
