Slight gain lifts index of state companies

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, was little changed Monday, rising 0.07 to 419.18.

Total volume for the index was 22.5 million shares.

"Most equities fell on Monday, led by shares of financials and commodities, while a rally in some of the most widely held technology stocks helped the Nasdaq exchange finish slightly higher," said Chris Harkins, managing director with Raymond James & Associates in Little Rock.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
