Gospel celebration starts with a party
A trio of events will recognize Arkansas' Gospel Music Heritage Month during September.
The Radio Announcer and Artist Listening Party Reception will be held at Shorter College, 604 N. Locust St. in North Little Rock, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, with an artist showcase afterward from 7:30-9:30 p.m.
On Sept. 15, A "Pop-Up Worship" event will take place at GoodFellas Barber Shop in Little Rock's Park Plaza, 6000 W. Markham St. at noon; and at 5 p.m. the doors open for the gospel gala event Arkansas Grand Finale at New Hope Baptist Church, 1821 Edmonds St. in North Little Rock.

Interfaith podcast released on iTunes
Interfaith Arkansas has released the first installment of a new monthly podcast, We Are Arkansas.
Guests on the podcast include "religious thinkers, movers and shakers" statewide, according to the podcast's description on iTunes, and in its Aug. 24 debut, Jennifer Reimer of North Little Rock talks with the Rev. Steve Copley about the Baha'i faith. Copley is Interfaith Arkansas' executive director.
Interfaith Arkansas, created in the late 1950s in response to the crisis at Little Rock Central High School, is dedicated to multifaith, ecumenical work in Arkansas.
"We're very interested in showing how different faith traditions and different people who are engaged in our work who live here in Arkansas are much more alike than different," Copley said, in the debut episode's introduction.
According to Copley, new episodes will be released during the fourth week of each month.

Trinity workshops deal with life's end
Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 310 W. 17th St. in Little Rock, will host "With Clear Eyes and Hopeful Hearts," a series of free workshops that address end-of-life planning, on Wednesdays at 6:15 p.m.
On Thursday, Harold Hedges will speak about parenting one's parents and family dynamics; Ashley Stepps, a lawyer specializing in Arkansas elder law, on Sept. 19 will lead "Why Might I Need an Elder Attorney?"; and on Sept. 26 Carolyn Torrence of Alzheimer's Arkansas will address dementia awareness.
