Fatal crash closes I-40 shoulder in central Arkansas

At least one person was killed Monday afternoon in a crash near a busy interchange in North Little Rock, authorities said.

The wreck, which was reported around 1:20 p.m., happened along eastbound Interstate 40 near Interstate 430. The right shoulder of I-40 was reported blocked by emergency personnel.

It wasn't immediately clear how the wreck happened.

Department of Transportation spokesman Danny Straessle said he didn’t have any additional information.

Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said troopers were on scene.

A Department of Transportation traffic map and camera showed traffic moving slowly through the area shortly before 2 p.m.
