WEDNESDAY

Speaker at symposium

Film and television director/producer Harry Thomason will present the keynote address for Arkansas State University's Delta Symposium XXV, "Dislocation and the Delta," 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Mockingbird Room of Reng Student Union, 101 N. Caraway Road, Jonesboro. Thomason's topic will be "Relocating Southern Stereotypes: How Hollywood Damaged the Southern Image."

Thomason, a native of Hampton, and his wife, writer and Poplar Bluff, Mo., native Linda Bloodworth Thomason, created Mozark Productions, producing hit shows including Designing Women, Evening Shade and Women of the House. Thomason directed the feature film The Last Ride, focusing on the final days of country music legend Hank Williams.

Music at Mosaic

Violinist Gareth Johnson, who is soloing Saturday and Sunday with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, will also take part in a discussion and demonstration of his musical experience, comprising classical, contemporary, New Age and hip-hop, 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, 501 W. Ninth St., Little Rock. The session will also feature an overview of the historical connection of West Ninth Street and black American music. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free. Poetry winners

The Poets' Roundtable of Arkansas has announced the winners of the 2019 Sybil Nash Abrams Memorial Contests for Arkansas students. Students could submit poems on any subject, in free verse, with a 24-line limit.

Winners in the Junior Division (grades 6-8):
