Emmy Award-winning actress goes solo in comedy show at Fayetteville's Walton Arts Center

Broadway actress Liz Callaway appears in TheatreSquared's production of the one-woman comedy Every Brilliant Thing by Duncan MacMillan (with Jonny Donahoe), opening Wednesday and on stage 7:30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday through Feb. 10 at Walton Arts Center's Nadine Baum Studios, 505 W. Spring St., Fayetteville.

Callaway received an Emmy Award for hosting Ready to Go, a daily, live children's program on CBS in Boston, and a Tony Award nomination for her performance in Baby on Broadway. For five years she played Grizabella in Cats and also was part of the original casts of Miss Saigon, The Three Musketeers and The Look of Love.

She sang the Academy Award-nominated song "Journey to the Past" in the animated feature Anastasia and provided the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Disney's Aladdin and the King of Thieves and The Return of Jafar.

'The Creative Mind'

Two exhibits open Monday at the Center for Humanities and Arts, University of Arkansas-Pulaski Technical College, 3000 W. Scenic Drive, North Little Rock:

• "The Creative Mind," a traveling exhibit from the National Academy of Sciences in Washington -- celebrating the contributions of black Americans to medicine, mathematics, engineering and all branches of science -- will be on display through April 1 in the lobby. The exhibit consists of seven colorful, flexible panels devoted to medicine, mathematics, engineering and biological, physical and social sciences.

• "Women of a New Tribe," a photographic study of the physical and spiritual beauty of black American women by Jerry Taliaferro, will be up through Feb. 23 in the center's Windgate Gallery.

A reception, 6-8 p.m. Friday, will include a 6:30 gallery talk by Garbo Watson Hearne, director of Hearne Fine Art in Little Rock, and music by Barry McVinney, saxophone, and Julia Buckingham, piano.

Forgotten Angel film

The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, 503 E. Ninth St. Little Rock, will screen the documentary Searching for Augusta: The Forgotten Angel of Bastogne, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday as part of the Movies at MacArthur series.

The film, based on a book by historian Martin King, tells the story of Augusta Chiwy, a black nurse, and her service at a U.S. military aid station during the opening days of the Battle of the Bulge near the end of World War II, through archival footage and photos, black and white sketches and interviews with King.
