NW paper names advertising chief

FAYETTEVILLE -- The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Tuesday promoted Beth Johnson, the newspaper's real estate specialist, to director of advertising and marketing.

Johnson replaces Brent Powers, who was promoted to president of the newspaper in April.

"He left some big shoes to fill," Johnson said in an interview after Tuesday's announcement.

"We have the right people on the bus," Johnson said of her staff. Her responsibility, she said, is to "grow our team and come up with new solutions to help grow our local businesses."

Being the newspaper's real estate specialist for 2½ years familiarized her with all areas of Northwest Arkansas along with much of northeast Oklahoma and southwest Missouri, she said.

Johnson worked for the Joplin Globe in Joplin, Mo., before joining the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in April 2017. In Joplin, she rose to the post of display advertising manager.

Johnson and her family live in Neosho, Mo., but plan to move to Northwest Arkansas in August, she said.
