Church notes: Special events at area churches

Washington County

Sequoyah United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, 1910 N. Old Wire Road, hosts the church youths' 14th annual Pumpkin Patch this year to raise money for mission work.

In conjunction with the Pumpkin Patch, the church also hosts three free community events: Movie in the Patch at 7 p.m. today with free popcorn and drinks (just bring a chair or blanket to sit on); a free painting class at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 22 making wooden signs for fall; and a Trunk-or-Treat Fall Fest from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 27.

Pumpkin Patch hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; and noon-7 p.m. Sunday through Oct. 31.

Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Fayetteville, 901 Cleveland St., presents "The True Creation Story" by the Rev. Jim Parrish at 11 a.m. Sunday. Adult and child religious exploration and meditation is at 10 a.m. A nursery is available.

Benton County

Bella Vista Christian Women's Connection will meet at 9 a.m. Oct. 8 at Bella Vista Community Church, 75 Lancashire Blvd. The public is invited.

The featured speaker is Cindy Adams, an event planner. The guest speaker is Beth Walker. Her presentation is titled "That's News to Me."

This brunch is held on the second Tuesday of each month, and an all-American breakfast is served for $10. The program is sponsored by Stonecroft Ministries.

Bella Vista Lutheran Church, 1990 Forest Hills Blvd., hosts the Senior Safety Academy from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 8. There will be presentations on topics such as scams targeting seniors, identity theft, Medicare fraud and DNA testing. To register, contact the church office at 855-0272.

The Shepherd's Food pantry is open every Friday from 10 a.m. until noon. They are now collecting items for the holiday gift bags and are requesting cream of mushroom soup, pure pumpkin, evaporated milk and canned cranberry sauce. They are also in need of boxed cereal. A container for your donations is in the church narthex.

GriefShare meets every Thursday at 3 p.m. in the church library. If you have lost a loved one recently, this is a wonderful support group for you.

First Presbyterian Church in Bentonville, 901 N.E. J St., welcomes the Rev. Burns Stanfield of Boston on Oct. 6-7 for the annual Clabaugh Lecture Series offering titled "My Neighbor's Faith." He will be speaking on interfaith considerations in our changing community.

On Oct. 6, the Rev. Stanfield will preach at the 10:15 a.m. service and will give public presentations on interfaith issues at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 6 and at 7 p.m. on Oct. 7. All are welcome.

First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive, hosts the annual United Methodist Women's Holiday Bazaar from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

Homemade cinnamon and orange rolls and coffee will be available at 8:30 a.m., with hot chicken salad, sloppy joes and chips, stuffed baked potatoes, and dessert available after 10:30 a.m. A variety of hand-crafted items, "dignified discards," plants, homemade jams, jellies, breads and desserts and so much more will be available. All proceeds go to support local charities.

Forest Hills Church in Bella Vista, an American Baptist congregation, 1702 Bella Vista Blvd., hosts a Sunday Singalong with the band All In and The McCafferty Sisters at 4 p.m. Please note the change of time.

Highland Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Bella Vista, 1500 Forest Hills Blvd., hosts the Disciples Women the second Saturday of each month. On Oct. 12, they will have brunch and a study by Mary Jane Kuhlman titled: "You Will Be My Witnesses." Hosts serving brunch will be Marlene Gillette and Carolyn Walker. This meeting is open to all women who enjoy good food, fellowship and a study.

Disciples Men meet the third Saturday of each month at 8:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. After their coffee and snack, they will be working inside and outside Oct. 19 to clean up and repair anything in need.

Life Chain is held nationwide on the first Sunday in October. Sponsored by Benton County Right to Life, the "prayerful and peaceful demonstration for life" will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Boozman-Hof Eye Clinic, 3737 W. Walnut St. in Rogers.

Millwood Christian Church in Rogers, 3450 W. Pleasant Grove Road, will hold a Bingo Night fundraiser Oct. 8. Early Bird gaming starts at 6:30 pm with Main Pack gaming at 7 p.m. The funds raised through Millwood Bingo support the Essentials Outreach program, which distributes personal care items to those in need.
