El Dorado hosts NAACP banquet

EL DORADO -- The El Dorado-Union County Branch of the NAACP will present its annual Freedom Fund Banquet at 6 p.m. Oct. 19 in the Parish Hall of St. Mary's Episcopal Church.

Tafeni English, outreach director for the Southern Poverty Law Center, will deliver the keynote address, "The State of Civil Rights in America."

The Freedom Fund Banquet is the flagship fundraiser for the local chapter of the nation's oldest civil-rights organization, which is celebrating its 110th anniversary this year.

Proceeds are used to fund college scholarships for area high school seniors.

Tickets for the Freedom Fund Banquet are $25 and may be purchased from any NAACP member. The church is at 512 Champagnolle Road in El Dorado.
