2 architect firms picked to interview for LR airport's terminal project

Alliance -- an architecture, planning and design firm based in Minneapolis -- will get a chance to continue as the terminal architect at the state's largest airport.

The architectural selection committee for Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport on Tuesday also picked Corgan, an international architecture firm based in Dallas, to interview on Sept. 15.

Five other firms from Canada, Texas, Cleveland, Little Rock and North Little Rock also responded to a request for qualifications.

Alliance has been the terminal architect at Clinton National since 2009 and shepherded the redesign of the terminal, the first phase of which was largely completed in 2013 with the dedication and renaming of the airport.

The design work included a new baggage handling system, expansion and renovation of the ticket lobby, administrative offices, security checkpoint and other areas.

Further improvements under the first phase have included renovations of the baggage claim area, the concourse, restrooms and concessions. The final component, a renovation of the pre-security lobby, is nearing completion.

For the work, the airport has paid Alliance $10.7 million over 11 years, Clinton National spokesman Shane Carter said.

The Little Rock Municipal Airport Commission also will select an architect for its commercial and industrial properties.

The firms selected to be interviewed for that role include Wittenberg, Delony and Davidson Inc. and Cromwell Architects Engineers in Little Rock, and the North Little Rock firm of Taggart Architects. Twelve firms submitted qualifications.

Representatives of the selected firms for the commercial and industrial work are to be interviewed Sept. 16.

The award date for both contracts is Oct. 20.
