Delayed vets information fair back on

TEXARKANA -- Having been first postponed from May to June, the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter No. 278 is still planning to have its 24th annual Veterans Information Fair this week.

The fair is scheduled for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Texas-side Elks Lodge 2771, 3702 New Boston Road. Several agencies from Arkansas will be attending.

As in previous years, the fair is free and open to the public. The event's purpose is to assist veterans and military personnel currently serving, as well as National Guard personnel and their families, in getting information from a variety of sources on U.S. Veterans Administration benefits and related programs.

Agencies represented at the fair will include the Texas Veterans Commission, Texas Workforce Administration, the Veteran Affairs outpatient clinic, representatives from the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport and Little Rock's Veterans Center, as well as from the Social Security Administration.

Other agencies represented will be the Arkansas Veterans Affairs Office, the Arkansas Workforce Center, and veterans counselors and service officers from both Texarkana College and Texas A&M University-Texarkana. Also expected are representatives from the Area Agency on Aging, Hospice of Texarkana, East Funeral Home and Texarkana Funeral Home.
