Carl Anne Matkin

Carl Anne Matkin, 82, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at Butterfield Trail Village Health Care Center. She was born June 24, 1928 at Little Rock, the daughter of Walter and Cecil McDowell. She was preceded in death by her son, Ernest B. (Bo) Matkin III, and a brother, J. Walter McDowell. She was a graduate of Ashley Hall in Charleston, South Carolina and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, graduating with a B.A. in Foreign Languages. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She married Ernest B. Matkin Jr. May 17, 1952 and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Little Rock Junior League. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, and she and her husband were one of four founding families of Trinity United Methodist Church in Little Rock. She is survived by her husband: Ernest B. Matkin Jr.; two daughters: Judith Matkin Allen of Des Moines, Iowa; Marion Matkin Purvis and her husband Hoyt of Fayetteville; a brother: Thomas McDowell of Hilton Head, S.C.; three grandchildren: Story Matkin-Rawn, William Matkin Allen, Jonathan Andrew Allen and one great-grandchild, Zora Jay Allen Hayter. Arrangements are under the direction of Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Moore's Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, December 13 at Moore's Chapel with the Reverend Jeff Rawn officiating. Private family committal will be Friday December 10, 2010 at Roselawn Cemetery in Little Rock. Donations may be made to the following charities: the Alzheimer's Association, Oklahoma and Arkansas chapter, Faith in Action or the Komen Ozark Affiliate.
