James Houston Gunter, Sr.

Mr. James Houston Gunter, Sr., age 91, of Hope, Arkansas, passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at his home in Hope. He was born in College Hill, Arkansas, on August 10, 1919, to Wylie E. and Beulah Elizabeth Smith Gunter. He was a retired lumberman, member of the First Baptist Church in Hope, member of the Masonic Lodge #440 in McNeil, Arkansas, an Army veteran of World War II, and a former member of the Hope Lion‘s Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marie Long Gunter; two brothers: Donald W. Gunter and Franklin Gunter; three sisters: Mildred Brasher, Lois Duke and Annie Ruth Hart. His survivors include two sons: Justice Jim Gunter and Judee, of Hope and Mark Gunter, of Hope; two daughters: Janet Gibson and Kirk, Dade City, Florida; Elaine Warrington and Dick, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; seven grandchildren: Christie Adams and Richard, Tyler, Texas; Dr. Craig Alan Gunter and Holly, Tyler, Texas; Tim Gibson and Dana, Lithia, Florida; Wendi Zebell and Justin, Thompson Station, Tennessee; Lee Warrington and Catherine, Alpharetta, Georgia; Eric Warrington and Holly, Greenwood, Arkansas; and Guy Royston, Hope, Arkansas; ten great-grandchildren: Richard Andrew Adams, Jr., Peyton Gunter Adams, Bailey Brooks Gunter, Kegan Kol Gunter, Marlee Marie Gunter, all of Tyler, Texas; Savannah Bailey Gibson, Luke Daniel Gibson, Tyler James Gibson, all of Lithia, Florida; Anya Zebell and Anastasia Zebell, both of Thompson Station, Tennessee, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services: 2 p.m. Sunday, December 26, 2010, Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home Chapel, Hope, Arkansas, with Bro. Gary Gunter officiating. Burial: Shiloh-Lamartine Cemetery, Waldo, Arkansas.
