John Estes, 78, of Poughkeepsie, Arkansas died Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Cave City Nursing Home in Cave City, Arkansas. He was born May 21, 1932 in Ash Flat, Arkansas and was the son of Clyde Ulman Estes and Mamie Agnes (Hall) Estes. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was dedicated, loving and very supportive to his family. John loved people and was loyal to everyone he knew. He was a hard worker and always tried to help people in any way he could. He was a vocational agriculture teacher at Poughkeepsie Schools. After 40 years of service, he retired as the County Executive Director for the Farm Services Agency of Sharp County. He was a member of the Cave City Church of Christ. John loved to laugh. He also loved being outdoors and his cattle. John is survived by his wife, Frances (Herndon) Estes of Poughkeepsie; three sons, Chris Estes and wife, Cheryl, of McCrory, Arkansas, David Estes, and wife, Renae, of Greers Ferry, Arkansas, James Estes and wife, Margo, of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter, Julie Johnson and husband, Phillip, of Mount Pleasant, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Aaron Estes, Jenna Rogers and husband, Josh, Jessie Estes, Hayden Estes, Jack Estes; and three great-grandchildren, Madison Verser, Levi Verser, and Jacob Moore. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Maranda Estes Verser; and a brother, Joe Estes. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Cave City Church of Christ officiated by Dean Fuggett. Pallbearers are Jim Baxter, Zack Baxter, Roger Davis, Tommy Morgan, Justin Davis, and Jeral Hastings. Honorary pallbearers are J.L. Honey, Ricky Goff, Rod Luther, Ken McCullough, Gary Johnson, Larry Brown, David Curtis, Shelia Morgan, Nancy Ratliff, Larry Ladd and Dale Foley Burial will be at Wiles Cemetery in Ash Flat by Roller-Crouch-McGee Funeral Home of Cave City. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Cave City Church of Christ.
