Helen Bailey Adcock

Helen Bailey Adcock, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, died Friday April 15, 2011 at home at the age of 86. Born Sept. 22, 1924 in Little Rock, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Samuel and Lelah Wyatt Bailey. She was a graduate of Little Rock High School and attended Hendrix College during the war years of 1940's. As a senior, she served as president of the student body and president of her sorority. She led the move to permanently abolish fraternities and sororities from the Hendrix campus. She was instrumental in establishing the first student center on the campus. She had a lifetime interest in history gained in large part by study under Dean Staples at Hendrix College. After graduating from Hendrix College in 1946, she moved to Gould where she taught in the public school and met her husband Robert Hilary Adcock, whom she married on June 4, 1947. A long time resident of McGehee, Mrs. Adcock was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Her interests were genealogy, bird watching and gardening. She was a passionate Republican and thrived on national politics. She was honored as Woman of the Year in 2000 by the McGehee Chamber of Commerce. She and her husband have been dedicated to many things to improve life for the community including the opening of the McGehee Boys and Girls Club, Inc. In addition to her husband, Robert Adcock, she is survived by her son, Robert "Bunny" Adcock and his wife, Carol of Conway, Amanda Pambianchi and husband Charles of McGehee; brother, Melvin L. Bailey of Conway, grandchildren Hillary Adcock Wren and Ashton Adcock of Conway and Anthony Pambianchi and Anna Pambianchi of McGehee. Preceding Mrs. Adcock in death was her sister, Lois Bailey Moore of Rison. The family wishes to thank Drs. Prosser and Young, their staff, the staff of McGehee Hospital, Inc. and McGehee Ambulance Service, Home Hospice of Monticello. Special thanks and gratitude go to Joann Young, Debra Young and Sheretta Lee who were her loving caregivers. Family visitation will be held on Sunday, April 17th, 2011, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Griffin Funeral Services in McGehee. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 18th at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in McGehee. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of McGehee, McGehee Hospital, Inc., Boys and Girls Club, Inc of McGehee or to the charity of your choice.
