Josephine Booth

Josephine "Jo" Booth, 94, of Hope passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011 in Hope, Arkansas. She was born in Springhill, Arkansas, on December 7, 1917, to Emory and Nellie Turner Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, David and James; husband, Duffie Day Booth; daughter, Mary Ellen Booth; and son-in-law, Kelly White. Mrs. Booth graduated from Fulton High School. She received her bachelor's degree in education from Henderson State Teacher's College. Most of her teaching career was at Blevins High School. For 63 years she was a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hope where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and took an active part in women's ministry. She is survived by two daughters, Suzy White of Hot Springs and Sally Short and husband, Joe, of Hope; four grandsons, Jay White (Laura) of Little Rock, David White (Chelsea) of Tulsa, Okla.; Christopher Short and Jordan Short of Hope; four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Katelyn White of Little Rock, and Phillip and Julia White of Tulsa, Okla. A celebration of her life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 2 p.m., Rev. Phil McLarty officiating under the direction of Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home.
