Sallie Calloway Ham

Sallie Thelma Calloway Ham, 93, of Monticello passed away December 25, 2011 at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. She was born January 29, 1918 in Union Parish, Louisiana. Sallie was a loving, caring nurse who began her nursing career as a nurses' aide at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello, studied at Pine Bluff Vocational Training School and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). After additional training, she became a specialist in cardiac care and worked in the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) at Warren Hospital in Warren, Arkansas, for many years. She was a member of Second Baptist Church, Monticello. She was preceded in death by her parents Joe Lee and Naughvelle Futch Calloway; her husband, Grady Henry Ham; two sons, Carroll Dean Ham and Paul Henry Ham; a brother, Clarence Calloway and a sister, Chlorene Calloway Jones. She is survived by two daughters: Frances Marvelle Dye Fippen (Bill) of Little Rock and Wilma Rae Heflin (James "Jim") of Abilene, Texas; one son, Grady Ronald "Ronnie" Ham of Little Rock; three grandchildren, Loretta Dye Butler and Thelma Dye Michalek (Bruce), both of Little Rock and James David Heflin (Amy) of Easthampton, Massachusetts; five great-grandchildren, Jaclyn "Jacki" Butler, Billy Butler (Melissa), Ashley Michalek, Anthony Michalek, Stella Heflin and three great-great-grandchildren; an identical twin Allie Calloway Cantley of Crossett; five other sisters, Leola Burns of Strong, Sudie Garner of El Dorado, Martha House of Huntsville, Alabama, Jo Ann Smiley of Shreveport, Louisiana and Elaine Dees of Hermitage; three brothers, Victor Calloway of Boston, Massachusetts, Billy Ray Calloway of Crossett, and Wayne Calloway of Strong; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday. Online guestbook www.stephensondearman.com.
