Augustus J. Cooley 94, of Palmetto, Florida. Gus to all his friends passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Florida. He was born February 22, 1916 in Elba, Arkansas to the late Clyde and Melvina (Gardner) Cooley. He was preceded in death by his wife Beulah (Blair) Cooley they were married in 1936, his parents, three brothers, one sister, and five grandsons. He is survived by one brother Clyde (Paul) Cooley and wife Rena of Wickett, Texas; two sisters, Edith Howard of Paris, Missouri; and Joe Hoyle of Odessa, Texas; four daughters, Geneva and husband David Owens of Greenbrier, Arkansas; Loveda and husband Eldon Cass of Peru, Indiana; Betty and husband Jerry Moore of Palmetto, Florida; and Gustua and husband Edward Wallace of Palmetto, Florida; one son, John Cooley of Calico Rock, Arkansas; 20 grandchildren,45 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchildren, and he has relatives all over the United States. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, he served in Europe for two years and he received two bronze stars and other metals while he was serving his country. He was a farmer most of his life and loved to go fishing and hunting, but most of all he loved to go to the dances in Clinton at the Senior Citizen Center and at Heber Springs and Fairfield Bay until September 2009 when he moved to Florida to live with his daughter Gustua and husband Edward Wallace. That's where he learned to play shuffle board and was named rookie of the year. He also did some salt water fishing, he liked Florida but he missed all his friends especially, Orvil Reed who would take him to the dances with him. He loved all his friends and family and would do anything for them. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, February 2, 2011 and Funeral Service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home Chapel Clinton, Arkansas with Pastor Sheila Gardner of Scotland Assembly of God Church officiating. After the service Gus will be taken to Everest Memorial Park in Logansport, Indiana to be laid to rest with his wife Beulah. Funeral Service and Burial will be 1 p.m., Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Everest Memorial Park Cemetery Logansport, Indiana by: Flower-Leedy Funeral Home of Peru, Indiana.
