Salwa "Sue" Akel

Salwa (Sue) Akel, 68, of Sherwood was born April 1st, 1942 in Ramallah, Palestine and passed away on January 31st, 2011 in Little Rock. She was beloved by all who knew her and it has been said that she never met a stranger and was known as a loving and generous person. She enjoyed cooking for family and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was an active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. Before retiring in 2005, she owned R&S Grocery in Little Rock, prior to that she owned Main Street Cafeteria in downtown North Little Rock. She was a loving mother, sister, friend and the best Tata (grandmother) in the world. She is preceded in death by her husband of 15 years Shawki M. Akel, sister, Mary Akel and brother, David Akel. She is survived by her children; Michael Akel of Sherwood, Randy Akel and his wife Nisreen of Sherwood, Danny Akel of Sherwood, Darlene (Akel) Turjman and her husband Eli of North Little Rock; grandchildren Kaitlyn Akel, Christopher Akel, Gabrielle Turjman and Amberley Turjman; sisters, Georgina Farhat of Jacksonville, Fla., Karema Akel of Sherwood, Eklaus Salamy of Chicago, Ill.; brother, Jamal Akel of Chicago, Ill. and many other relatives, friends, and church family who all loved her and will miss her dearly. Visitation will be held at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home in North Little Rock at 7724 Landers Road (501-835-3515) form 6-8 p.m., Thursday, February 3rd, 2011 with funeral services on Friday, February 4th, 2011 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Little Rock at 11 a.m. officiated by Father Nicholus with burial to follow in Rest Hills Memorial Park in North Little Rock.
