Tim Miller of Hot Springs, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2011, surrounded by his wife and four children. He was predeceased by one sister, Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Miller. Tim was born on December 21, 1947, in Hot Springs to Jean and Eugene Miller. He began working at Shults Greenhouse, a family business, at the age of twelve and worked there for the rest of his life, except for four years' service in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1966. While in the Navy, he saw the world and later regaled people with tales of eating fish eye soup and sailing the seas around New Zealand. At one time, his ship, USS Providence, was reported missing during the Vietnam War, during which he received a Combat Action Ribbon and a Vietnam Service Medal. Tim made friends across Arkansas during his regular delivery rounds and was often known simply as "the flower man" by those whose lives he touched. He was a photographer, boat builder, astronomer, carpenter, HAM radio operator (KF5AF), scuba diver, duck hunter, angler, and fun-loving man whose sentences frequently began with the words, "I wonder what will happen if we...," and sometimes ended in explosions. He was renowned as a problem-solver who used his skills to help many people and was a family man who loved and appreciated his wife and children. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Lynn Smith Miller of Hot Springs; sisters, Sharon Miller of Port Townsend, Wash., Mary Legan and husband Mark of Dyersburg, Tenn., and Lisa C. Miller and Greg Saum of Rowayton, Conn.; daughter, Anna Lancaster and husband Guy of Little Rock; sons, Caleb of Hot Springs, Sam and wife Elaine of Morrilton, and Alexander, in training at Fort Rucker, Alabama; and three grandchildren, Gabriel, Max, and Abby Jean. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 11, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, of which he was a founding member, with Rev. Del Farris serving as the main officiant. Visitation will be Thursday, February 10, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Gross Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church and Arkansas Hospice. Pallbearers will be his friends Dr. Jon Hoyt, Randy McGrew, Jeff Speer, Richard McGrew, Ben Barr, and Nicholas McGrew. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery with full military honors by Thaddeus H. Caraway Post 2278, VFW Guest register at www.grossfuneralhome.com.
