James Marvin "J. M." Park

James Marvin "J. M." Park, 80, of Cabot died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011. J. M. was born to the late Marvin and Sue Worthington Park on Oct. 10, 1930. He was a Methodist and a 72 year member of the Cabot United Methodist Church. Mr. Park was a 1953 graduate of the University of Arkansas where he served as the president of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. After service in the United States Army in Korea, he returned to Cabot with his wife Carolyn (Blanks) to take a job with the Bank of Cabot. In the 41 years he worked for the bank, he rose to the position of President and Chairman of the Board before his retirement in 1996. J. M. took deep interest in his community, serving on the City Council, Cabot School Board, Chamber of Commerce, Cabot Water Commission, Safe Haven Shelter Board and the Cabot Lions Club. For his community service, he was three times elected Cabot Man of the Year. His service extended to the larger community of Arkansas. He served on the Carti Board, the Arkansas Student Loan Authority, the Arkansas Independent Bankers Association and the board of Home Bancshares. He was also a founding director of the Arkansas Bankers Bank, serving as president of its board at the time of his retirement in 1995. In addition to his parents, Mr. Park was preceded in death by a brother, Joe W. Park. Mr. Park is survived by his wife Carolyn, daughters; Susan Esche and her husband Eric, Holly Park and her partner Fran Lane and Allison Park and spouse Rupal Bhatt as well as one grandson James Eric Esche. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011 at Cabot United Methodist Church with Reverend Beth Waldrup officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Cabot United Methodist Church or the Cabot Scholarship Foundation.
