Charles E. Launius, 62, of Camden passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 14, 2011 with his wife and children by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 18, 1948 in Camden to Fred and Mary Lois Launius, who preceded him in death. He lived in Camden and surrounding areas all his life. He will be fondly remembered as the "the cable guy" and retired in 2008 from Wehco Video as area manager for the Camden, Hope and Prescott cable television systems after 40 years of service. He found the Lord later in life and became a dedicated Christian and member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Camden. It was there that he found his purpose in life, always eager to share his passion for the Lord with others. Until his illness, he enjoyed fishing, boating, golfing, gardening and taking long country rides on his Harley with his wife. He will always be remembered by many for his great sense of humor and his big smile. He previously served on the Camden Advertisting and Promotion Commission, on the executive board of the Camden Area Chamber of Commerce as communications and public relations chairman, as alderman on the City of Camden Board of Directors and was a past officer of the Camden Noon Lions Club and past member of Kiwanis in Hope. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Myra; two sons, Chuck Launius and wife, Jamie of Hot Springs, Teddy Launius and wife, Allison of Vicksburg, Miss.; two daughters, Kimberly Hurt of Anderson, Mo., and Kelly Bost and husband, Walden of Vicksburg, Miss.; 17 grandchildren, Zachary Launius, Meagan Launius, Michael Launius, Kristin Hurt, Myra Daniel, Charlee Peebles, Kelsey Peebles, Matthew Hackler, Heather Groves, Patrick Hackler, Dallas Skaggs, Dalton Skaggs, Kalob Kackley, Joseph Kackley, Mason Kackley, Brittney Bost and Dewayne Bost; special aunt, Jean Mengers of San Marcos, Texas; and special cousin, Eloise Ross of Georgetown, Texas. Other close and extended family includes Anita and Robert King and Glenda and Charlie James all of Vicksburg, Miss., Linda and Eddie Arendale of Greenville, MS, Terry and Harriett Lofton of Mobile, Ala., Paul and Barbara Lofton of Alexandria, Mo., Tony and Angela Lofton of Houston, Texas, Heather Moore of Cabot, Ark. and James Neal of Camden, Ark. Pallbearers will be Karl Schanzlin, Bryan Windham, Danny Foster, James Neal, Dub Barkhimer, Ronnie Floyd, Doug Morgan and Garth Smith. Visitaion will be from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday in the chapel of Proctor Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Camden with personal friend and Pastor John Burleson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund or Ouachita County Medical Center Hospice.
