Gene Branscum, resident of Ponca City, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011, at home surrounded by his family. He was 60 years old. Gene was born January 7, 1951 in Selma, California. He was married to Brenda on July 4, 1973 in Konawa, Oklahoma. They have two children, a son Stephen and a daughter Stacy. First and foremost, Gene had a genuine love for the Lord. He had several jobs including teaching, coaching, and driving a school bus for 13 years in Wewoka, Okla. banking, and also selling insurance for a number of years for Prepaid Legal, but he esteemed one thing above all these and surrendered his life to the ministry, pastoring churches in Oklahoma for over 25 years. He loved his church families, his friends, and the people he ministered to, but held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. He loved to tell stories and had a positive impact on every person he met. He is survived by his wife Brenda of the home; son, Stephen Branscum and his wife Becky and their children, Caleb, Kyrstin, and Trey of Centerton, Ark.; daughter, Stacy Branscum and her daughters, Ayden and Madisyn of Ponca City, Okla.; Father, Leon Branscum of Perry, Okla.; Brothers, Ron and wife Gayla of Konawa, Okla.; Charlie and wife Iris of Stillwater, Okla.; Randy and wife Leona of Elmendorf, Texas; Jerry and wife Tammy of Byng, Okla.; Jim and wife Pam of Denison, Texas. He is preceded in death by his mother Emily Branscum. The Service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the Harmony Baptist Church in Ponca City, Okla. with Jim Branscum and Rick McVeigh, officiating. Burial will then follow at the Vamoosa Cemetery in Konawa, Okla. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory. Casketbearers will be Gene's five brothers and Mike Raines. Honorary casketbearers will be Caleb, Trey, Jared, Michael, Daniel, Josh, and Mark Branscum.
