James Donald "Donnie" Guthrie

Mr. James Donald "Donnie" Guthrie died of cancer at his home in Forrest City, Arkansas on January 6, 2011. Donnie was born in Little Rock on March 30, 1946 to Frances and Jerry Guthrie. He attended Little Rock public schools where he excelled in music and sports. After graduating from Little Rock Central he attended Henderson State where he majored in music. Donnie played the trombone in the Henderson band and later in a National Guard band. He began bowling at an early age and as a young adult he bowled on the PBA tour. In 1966 he moved to Forrest City to manage the local bowling alley. Donnie then began a career as an agricultural pilot for Hutcherson Flying Service which he later owned. He flew for over 30 years. In 1987 he married Elsie Callaway Trail. After retiring from flying, he and Elsie established D & E Golf, Inc. at the Forrest City Country Club where Donnie was the manager and golf club pro. He is survived by his loving wife, his brother, Jerry Guthrie, his stepmother, Jean Guthrie, stepbrothers, Larry and Chuck Koehler, stepsister, Regina Koehler, four children, Tonya Guthrie, Terry Don Guthrie, Nicole Trial and Rich Trail, and seven grandchildren, Morgan Baldwin, David, Randy and Brayden May, Tyler and Tra Guthrie and Cole Trail, as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. Memorials may be made to the Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church in Forrest City. Visitation will be at Stevens Funeral Home in Forrest City on Friday, January 7, between 6 and 8 p.m. Services will be at the Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2011 with burial to follow at Forrest Park Cemetery.
